Chocolate and child-friendly coffee? Yes please! If you want, or need, both of these things together once in a while, Whistler’s Chocolate Company in the Swan Valley is the place to go. With a café, chocolate shop and huge lawn for the kids to run around, it’s a winner for families and chocolate lovers alike.
The chocolate shop is packed full of goodies, and you have to walk through the shop to get to the café. We visited on a hot day, so naturally we chose to leave our chocolate purchases until the end of our visit. The shop and café were lovely and cool, but we chose to sit outside in the undercover area, next to the lawn where the kids are free to run around.
I’d been meaning to make a trip to Whistler’s for some time, but it was only when I had family over from interstate did I get round to going. I’m actually glad I didn’t go alone, as my 2.5 year old had ZERO time for sitting around with us adults and her baby sister – she was simply having too much fun running around the open grassy area.
We ordered at the counter first. There’s no table service, and when your order is ready you pick it up at the counter. Between us we ordered a cappuccino, serve of banana bread, iced coffee, lemon tart and a cute little gingerbread man.
Not even the gingerbread man could bribe my toddler into sitting for a few minutes. I managed sips of my delicious cappuccino between chasing her around and I did manage to get her to eat a bit of the tasty banana bread. And then off she toddled to play again.
There’s a sandpit for the kids, plus a big chalkboard and various balls, buckets and spades dotted around the place, all of which the kids are free to use.
You can sit down for coffee and cake, or enjoy a light lunch before heading into the shop for some free chocolate samples! There’s some great ideas for gifts, including chocolate packs, bottled chocolate, novelty items, truffle boxes and did I mention chocolate? Between my mother in law and I we bought just over $100 worth of chocolate for Christmas gifts (and a couple of treats for ourselves) and received a free cooler bag to keep the choccies cold.
Whistler’s also has a factory outlet in Belmont at 18 Hubert Street, which sells all the favourites plus things you may not find in the showroom and is open between 10am and 2pm Monday to Friday. See the Whistler’s
