A list of some of the best Perth parks and playgrounds for toddlers and preschoolers.

Toddlers are such interesting little people. They are loving, funny, crazy, inquisitive and at the same time messy, frustrating and prone to some awesome tantrums. They love to explore, and what better place to explore, burn some energy and throw an epic tantie at than a playground? Perth has a whole heap of playgrounds that are well suited to toddlers, including fully enclosed fencing to contain little bolters and lots of age-appropriate equipment. Here are some of the best.

Woodbridge Riverside Play Space, Woodbridge
First Ave, Woodbridge – just off the Great Eastern Highway

Woodbridge Riverside Play Space is a wonderful play space for children of all ages and abilities, but the fact that it is fully enclosed makes it the perfect spot for toddlers to run wild. It has a little wooden pirate ship playground and lots of sand and soft play. Perhaps the only drawback is the lack of shade, so take a hat, water and don’t forget to slip, slop and slap on the sunscreen. You can read more here.

• Toddler age-appropriate equipment

Yokine Reserve is a gorgeous enclosed space with lots of great play for toddlers, inclyding a musical area, roundabouts and water play. There are toilets and plenty of parking nearby. You can read more here.

Widely known as the ‘Dr Seuss playground’ for it’s quirky red and white motifs, Kadidjiny Park is great for toddlers. It’s fully gated, has lots of sand play, including little diggers. There’s also lots of soft padding, a tripod swing and musical instruments. For more information, read on here.

Mueller Park, Subiaco
140 Roberts Road, Subiaco

• Fully enclosed playground
• Toddler age-appropriate play equipment
• Sand and water play

A toddler’s paradise, Mueller Park has musical instruments, a double slide built just for toddlers, a tripod swing and heaps of things for little bodies to explore. There’s a picnic and barbeque area and lots of shaded spots. Perhaps the only drawbacks are the lack of toilets in the area and the limited parking during the week due to the park’s close proximity to Princess Margaret Hospital. You can read the full review here.

Faulkner Park (Volcano Playground) Belmont
Belmont Oasis Leisure Centre Complex, Progress Way, Belmont

• Fully enclosed playground
• Separate, shaded space for toddlers
• Lots of sand and soft play

Faulkner Park is affectionately known as the ‘Volcano playground’ because it has just that – a giant volcano – as its centrepiece. It’s fully gated and has a lovely shaded spot just for toddlers. Little walkers will however, love running up and down the volcano ramp. There are lots of activities for older kids too, including a flying fox. You can read the full review here.

Milgar Street Reserve (Caterpillar Park) Mandurah
Milgar Reserve, Park Road, Mandurah

• Fully enclosed playground
• Toddler age-appropriate play equipment
• Shaded areas

Another gorgeous park with a cute nickname, ‘Caterpillar Park’ has lots of play equipment for toddlers, plus plenty of grassed areas and toilets outside the gates. There is plenty of parking available. You can read the full PMG review here.
