The Perth Mums Group Useful Lists are a quick reference to some of the most helpful, fun and important places in Perth. Our lists are continually updated and cover the best places for kids and parents across Perth.

Obviously, the list doesn't include all the great beaches in Perth, but this is a great place to start. Remember to always do your own research and make sure the area meets your personal needs.

Western Suburbs

Cottesloe Beach
Address: Marine Parade, Cottesloe.

It just wouldn’t be a complete list of beaches without Cottesloe. This iconic Perth beach is great for families, with several playgrounds, grassed areas and a café and kiosk on site.



Leighton Beach, North Fremantle
Address: Leighton Beach Boulevard, North Fremantle.

This family-friendly beach is a great spot for swimming and having a picnic barbeque. There are takeaway food options close by, plus a designated dog beach.

South of Perth

Port Coogee Beach, Coogee
Address: Maraboo Wharf, North Coogee.

With a shallow beach, water play and undercover picnic areas, Port Coogee Beach is a great place to take the kids. Plus, there is a Dome Café close by – perfect for parents needing coffee.

South Beach, South Fremantle
Address: Ocean Drive, South Fremantle.

Point Walter, Bicton
Address: Honour Avenue, Bicton.

While technically located along the banks of the Swan River, Point Walter has several sandy spots on the shallow water, with plenty of shade, two playgrounds and a cafe and takeaway kiosk. Read the PMG review here .



Rockingham Foreshore
Address: Rockingham Beach Road, Rockingham.

Rockingham Foreshore has a heap of playgrounds for the kids to enjoy, plus gorgeous beaches and pram-friendly walking paths. There are toilets, barbeque facilities and a heap of cafes and restaurants close by.



Secret Harbour
Address: Secret Harbour Boulevard, Secret Harbour.

Secret Harbour beach is home to the Secret Harbour Surf Lifesaving Club , which runs the Nipper program, making it a great place for young kids to learn the ins and outs of surf lifesaving. There is also a surfing school and dog beach close by.

Coogee Beach, Coogee
Address: Powell Road, Coogee.

The Basin and Thomsons Bay, Rottnest Island

The Basin has a sheltered swimming area, which is perfect for families with young kids, while Thomsons Bay is a popular spot due to its lovely, clear and shallow waters.



North of Perth

Mettam Pools, Trigg
Address: 276 West Coast Drive, North Beach.

This natural pool is located within a protecting reef and is a popular spot for families with young children due to its calm waters. There is a ramp that runs down to the water, making it ideal for prams and wheelchairs.

Hillarys Boat Harbour
Address: 86 Southside Drive, Hillarys.

Hillarys has a lovely shallow beach, a playground and lots of grassed areas to sit and enjoy a picnic. It is surrounded by a heap of cafes and places to eat.



Mullaloo Beach
Address: Off Oceanside Promenade, Mullaloo.

Mullaloo Beach is positively family friendly, with a playground, surf-lifesaving club with a kiosk, plus a café and hotel across the road.



Scarborough Beach
Address: The Esplanade, Scarborough.

Scarborough Beach is a fantastic destination if you have kids, as it boasts a playground, pram-friendly walking track, barbeques and cafes across the road for snacks and drinks.



City Beach
Address: Challenger Parade, City Beach.

City Beach has two playgrounds, picnic areas, barbeques, drinking water and a restaurant close by.

Floreat Beach
Address: West Coast Highway, Floreat.

Floreat Beach is a popular spot for families, with lots of shaded areas, picnic tables, a shaded playground and a café right on the beachfront.
