It’s no secret that us West Aussies just love the beach. Well, not me so much – I’m not a fan of sand, but my daughter loves the beach, so I guess I have to love it too now! Learning to swim and being safe around any body of water are such important skills that kids need for growing up in WA, and Surf Life Saving WA has beach safety programs for children and their parents.

SurfBabies and SurfKids are six-week programs run by Surf Lifesaving WA that aim to teach children and their parents about being safe at the beach, while encouraging children to develop confidence in the water.
Lessons are only 30 minutes each, which are perfect for little minds that tend to wander after too long, and the programs are designed for children aged between 2 and 7 years.
SurfBabies and SurfKids are run at the following locations in Perth:
• Alkimos Beach
• Coogee Beach
• Cottesloe
• Fremantle
• Mullaloo
• North Beach
• Quinns Rocks
• Sorrento
The programs are run on Saturday mornings during the first and fourth school terms, with the next program starting in early November and a new program starting early February 2018.

The cost is $100 per child, and a parent or guardian must participate with the child during the program.
Once children turn 5 years old, they can join the
Nippers Program , which is designed to teach children aged 5 to 12 years about surf awareness, teach lifesaving skills and surf sport skills.
