For those not in the know, Supa Nova is something of a geek Mecca held annually at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre as well as other major cities around Australia, attracting thousands of visitors each day it is open.
Opening in Perth on June 24 and running until June 26, Supa Nova brings fans, both young and old, face to face with the stars and merchandise from their favourite fandoms; whether they be television, movie, comic book, graphic novel, game or trading card.
Each year celebrities sign on to attend these events and meet up with their fans (fees apply for photos and autographs). This year Perth is being graced with some amazingly talented individuals:
- Sean Astin (Lord of the Rings, The Goonies)
- Holly Marie Combs (Charmed, Pretty Little Liars)
- Shannen Doherty (Charmed, Beverly Hills 90210)
- Brian Krause (Charmed, Return to the Blue Lagoon)
- Travis Fimmel (Vikings)
- Peter Facinelli (Twilight)
- Tamora Pierce (Author: Circle of Magic Series)
...plus many more.
Cosplay (dressing in costume for the non-geek) is another major component of the Supa Nova events with competitions being held at each location. Prizes are available to major winners, as are opportunities to compete in the Madman National Cosplay Championship. If you'd like to take part make sure you visit the Supa Nova website to register and don't forget to bring your 'A' game as this is no mere fancy dress competition.
Travel to and from the event is best done by public transport as parking is limited. Elizabeth Quay bus port and train station are within easy walking distance of the Perth Entertainment and Exhibition Centre. If you would rather drive, parking is available below the Centre but is limited to 1500 bays (fees apply; $5.60 per hour or $16.50 flat rate 6am-6pm).
