A wonderful nautical themed park in Perth's south-eastern suburbs.
Ahoy, me hearties! The new Shipwreck Park in Hilbert has officially opened and welcomes you to bring your children and their sea legs for a morning or afternoon of fun.
Perth is no stranger to ship-themed parks, with many boat-themed playgrounds dotted around the city. This latest nautical inspired space has a large ship as the centrepiece, plus a flying fox, water and sand play, mini in-built trampolines and lots more.
The ship has run aground among the rocks, spilling its cargo all over the place and creating a heap of fun for the kids. There’s ropes to climb, ladders, slides and walkways to explore.
The kids can sit in the cargo boxes, dig in the sand or take a ride up and down one of the ‘lifts’ which use body weight to slowly descend to the ground and then they will slowly ascend to the top once the passenger is safely on the ground. Magic! It’s definitely for older kids only though, as the gap between the platform and the lift is a bit too wide for little legs to step onto.
Luckily for the little ones, there is still plenty for them to do, such as bouncing up and down on the mini, in-ground trampolines, having a go on the swings, log steps and indulging in a bit of water play. There’s also a tripod swing.
You’ll find sensory play, musical play and of course, lots of marine-inspired motifs. Another great thing about the playground is the flying fox, which has an accessible seat.
There are several different undercover picnic and barbeque areas both inside and outside the fenced area, plus scooter and bike tracks.
The Shipwreck Park has toilets inside the enclosed space, which is handy for parents. There is also a water fountain. The only negatives aspects of the playground were the metal slides – when we visited it was a hot day and the slides were a bit hot for little bottoms, even through long pants!
Be prepared to make more than one trip to this innovative playground – you can be sure the kids will discover something new at every visit!
