If you’ve heard of the term ‘sensory play’ but are not sure what it means, it basically refers to any sort of play that can stimulate the senses – touch, smell, hearing and sight. With babies, you can add 'taste' to that list, since they love putting everything into their mouth.

Sensory, messy play is how babies and toddlers learn, and has been shown to improve a number of skills, including cognitive, social and fine motor skills. It can involve anything from blowing bubbles to sand or water play, painting, and using a range of different materials.
