Spring is almost here! And what better way to awaken your child's creativity and imagination than with NIDA Open’s (National Institute of Dramatic Art) enchanting performing arts classes rolling out in Perth these school holidays.

From the 3rd to the 9th of October, during the second week of the school holidays, NIDA Open are giving children and young people the opportunity to engage in a variety of drama short courses in order to unlock their creative potential, build their confidence or even get ready for an upcoming audition.



Head of NIDA Open, Tricia Ryan encourages the young generation to bring out their creative voice with performing arts: ‘NIDA Open’s spring school holidays program is filled with classes designed to inspire and awaken the imagination of children and young people, as well as boost their confidence. Our focus is the child or young person as an artist – we encourage and support young people of any age to fully experience artistic practice and explore their unique creative potential,’ commented Ms Ryan.

These school holidays the NIDA Open classes will be conducted at the Subiaco Arts Centre, with qualified tutors all having extensive experience in theatre, TV and film.

Book at least four weeks before the course start date to receive a 10% earlybird discount.

Acting for Stage and Screen
Experience the power of voice, movement and improvisation as you rehearse and perform scenes from plays, films and TV. Workshop scenes to camera and perform for family and friends at the end of the course.

Grades: 3–6

Off-the-Cuff: Improvisation
Start with nothing, risk everything and learn how to impress on stage in every moment. Learn fundamental short and long form improvisation skills, improve confidence, explore creative spontaneity and develop fundamental acting skills. Showcase your skills to family and friends in an improvised ‘Off the Cuff’ presentation at the end of the course.

Grades: 3–6

NIDA Drama School
A comprehensive course for committed young people. Develop performance skills including improvisation, voice and movement, devising, acting and rehearsing scenes. Perform scenes at the end of the week for family and friends.

Screen Acting Boot Camp
Identify and experience the essentials of screen acting. Build your on screen confidence as you develop skills in improvisation, character development and script work. Rehearse and present live and recorded scenes for family and friends at the end of the course.

Grades: 7–10

Screen Actors Society
Engage in intensive scenework from iconic US films that explore the journey of self-discovery from teen years into adulthood. Apply NIDA acting techniques to scenes from films such as Easy A, Almost Famous and The Fault in Our Stars under the direction of a NIDA tutor and accent coach. Showcase your work in a screening for family and friends at the end of the course.

Auditions Masterclass
Get audition ready with NIDA experts as you learn the skills of audition preparation. Practise, present and perfect your material and participate in a simulated audition process.
