Take the kids to one of these top playgrounds in one of Perth’s biggest cities.

Stuck for places to take the kids? Perth has absolutely loads of parks and playgrounds you can take your children to, and Perth Mums Group is taking a closer look at some of the top parks in your city or area. Here are the top parks and playgrounds in the City of Melville.

Heathcote Reserve, Applecross
Duncraig Road, Applecross
Full Review

Heathcote Reserve has long been famous for its iconic pirate ship playground. The main play space features the amazing pirate ship, plus swings, slides, places to climb and more. There is also a separate area for toddlers, plus picnic and barbecue spots, toilets and takeaway food and coffee from the Blue Water Grill Steakhouse onsite.

There is also a takeaway kiosk that serves coffee and snacks - if the kiosk is not open, you can still get coffee from the BWG restaurant.

Point Walter, Bicton
Honour Avenue, Bicton
Full Review

Point Walter has two playgrounds - one at ‘the top of the hill’ and one ‘at the bottom of the hill’. Neither are huge playgrounds, but they are close to the shallow water, toilets and the cafe at the bottom. The top playground is the bigger of the two and is most appealing to young children, with plenty of age appropriate play equipment.

I usually start by visiting the playground at the bottom of the hill due to its proximity to the cafe and toilets, then head up to the playground at the top of the hill. It is a fair hike though!

'Dr Seuss Park’ Melville
Kitchener Road, Melville
Full Review

Dre Seuss Park is a nickname given to Kadidjiny Park in Melville. It is nicknamed ‘Dr Seuss’ park because of the red and white motifs around the park that resemble the famous ‘cat in the hat character’.

The park includes nature play, sensory play, a tripod swing and a roundabout. There’s a climbing frame made from rope that resumes a spider’s web, plus slides, sand play and more.

Carawatha Park, Willagee
Archibald Street, Willagee
Full Review

This cute nature playground in Willagee just happens to be opposite a child-friendly cafe, Little Olive Leaf in Willagee, which has a dedicated play area for the kids. But back to the playground - Carawatha has heaps of nature play, timber, rope and climbing apparatus made from nature elements. It also has a fantastic outdoor equipment area.

Webber Reserve, Willagee
30 Hodge Street, Willagee
Full Review

Webber Reserve nature playground is not your traditional play space, with rope play, logs and rocks to climb and explore. It’s not a huge space, but there is loads of grass for the kids to run around plus the child-friendly 2 Greenfingers cafe just across the road.

Piney Lakes Sensory Playground, Winthrop
Murdoch Drive, Winthrop
Full Review

The tired old playground at Piney Lakes Reserve has had a revamp in recent times. It now includes a dedicated sensory play area, all abilities swing, roundabout, nature play space and rope climbing frame.

Deep Water Point Playground, Mount Pleasant
The Esplanade, Mount Pleasant

Deep Water Point Reserve has undergone a revamp, with the addition of a Dome Cafe and a new sensory playground. On one side of the cafe is a rope-based play structure for older kids, and on the other side is a second small play area, which features swings and a nature play area. There is also the beautiful shoreline to explore!
