Perth’s Best Pram Friendly Walks – South Of The River

Perth is an absolute haven for mums and bubs who love getting out and about with the pram. We are truly blessed to have so many quality, completely pram-friendly walking paths to enjoy – including some that provide truly spectacular views of the Swan River or Indian Ocean. Walking is great exercise for anyone, but especially for new mums needing to get out of the house. Here’s five of the best walking paths for mums with prams located south of the river.

South Perth Foreshore
Where? South Perth Esplanade, South Perth

With car parks dotted all along the South Perth Foreshore, including Mends Street and Coode Streets, you can just about start anywhere along the foreshore and the terrain is the same. Enjoy flat paths around the foreshore, which is also great for shaded areas, playgrounds and coffee shops along the way. There are large pockets of the foreshore, especially towards the Narrows Bridge, that are not covered by shade, so remember to take a hat and sunscreen and keep the pram covered.

A coffee shop and playground. Bonus!

Deep Water Point, Mount Pleasant
Where? The Esplanade, Mt. Pleasant

The Esplanade in Mount Pleasant runs all the way from Canning Highway to the freeway bridge, including Deep Water Point, which has a playground and shade in case you need to take a break. There are bathroom facilities here, sandy river banks and although the Deep Water Point Café is currently closed, is frequented by a coffee van. The Esplanade path is mainly flat and runs parallel to the river, making it another great spot to enjoy the views. The shaded areas are somewhat intermittent, so wear a hat and use a shade cover for the pram.

Riverside Road, East Fremantle
Where? Riverside Road, East Fremantle

The waterfront along East Fremantle is another stunning and pram friendly walk. Riverside Road stretches all the way from the East Fremantle Junior Football Club and runs to the very edge of Fremantle. It's mostly flat, but much of the path isn’t shaded until you get to the park areas near to the Zephyr Café (which, by the way, is great for a coffee stop.) There’s also outdoor gym equipment just beyond the Swan Yacht Club, while some of the streets on the opposite side of Riverside Road are quite hilly and are a great fitness challenge for you and the pram.

Bibra Lake Reserve
Where? The path runs around Bibra Lake from Progress Drive to Hope Road and Bibra Drive.

The path along Bibra Lake Reserve has lots of lovely shade and is flat, making it the ideal place to push the pram. The path runs from Progress Drive to Hope Road and along Bibra Drive, passing Bibra Lake Regional Playground along the way. There are toilets located both in the playground and at the Progress Drive carpark.

Rockingham Foreshore
Where? Rockingham Beach Road. Start at Bell Park and walk from there, or enter the carpark at Roe or Victoria Street.

Rockingham Foreshore’s cycle and walk cycle path is a great spot for mums who want a bit of a challenge with the pram. With both flat and hilly areas, it makes a perfect pram workout that is shaded in parts. You’ll enjoy spectacular views of the Indian Ocean along the way, while there’s heaps of little playgrounds along the walk. There are toilet facilities and many cafes and restaurants close to the foreshore, making it great for a coffee break too.

So grab your baby, grab the pram and head out for a lovely Perth walk. Always remember to wear comfortable footwear and clothing and dress baby appropriately for the occasion, and avoid spending extended periods of time out in the sun.
