The University of Western Australia: School of Social Sciences invites WA parents to take part in a study exploring parental choices for infant RSV immunisation (Nirsevimab) in Western Australia.
Importantly, this qualitative study is impartial and does not promote a particular vaccination position or pass judgment on parents’ immunisation choices.
Your participation will be a valuable contribution to the study and help researchers identify factors that shape parents' choices around RSV immunisation and examine how these decisions reflect broader community attitudes towards recommended vaccinations.
Researchers are keen to hear from parents from all over Western Australia so that the study findings include voices and experiences of parents across the state.
Who can take part?
To be eligible for the study you must be the parent or guardian of a child who meets one of the following criteria:
Was born between 1 October 2023 and 30 September 2024, and offered Nirsevimab under
the WA Health ‘catch-up’ program; OR
Was born between 1 May and 30 September 2024 and offered Nirsevimab at birth; OR
Is Aboriginal and was born between 1 October 2022 to 30 September 2024 and is eligible for
Nirsevimab immunisation; OR
Is considered a medically at-risk child, born between 1 October 2022 to 30 September 2023
and is eligible for Nirsevimab immunisation.
AND
You chose to decline this immunisation, or you opted to delay* this immunisation for your child.
*If you opted to delay the immunisation when first offered but have since had your child immunised against RSV you are still eligible to participate.
If you did accept the immunisation, you are invited to join another study focused on that group which will be occurring soon - if you are interested in taking part, please email
[email protected]
What does participation involve?
WA parents will complete a screening demographic survey to ensure that they are eligible and if they are eligible they will be invited to participate in an interview that lasts up to one hour (this can either be in person or online) and gifted a $50 voucher as a token of gratitude.
Your information will be treated as confidential by the research team.
