There seems to be an influx of awesome, quirky new playgrounds popping up all over Perth, each with something a little different to offer. My daughter and I recently stumbled upon a new robot-themed playground in Piara Waters, and were surprised to see a flying fox in operation. Yep – a fully functional, totally fun-looking flying fox.
Personally I am not sure what flying foxes have to do with robots, but the kids certainly didn’t care and were having a ball, whizzing up and down the sandy hill.
The new robot park is great for kids of all ages.
The playground is made up of various little sections, but the two major parts are the robot’s head, which is a cubby-house type structure, and the robot’s body. There is a slide inside the head.
The body features a combination of nets, rope ladders, slides and a rock-climbing wall. The ladders lead to the top of the body, which is fully fenced, and the flying fox.
The ‘hamster wheel.
Underneath the body is what I can only describe as a ‘hamster wheel.’ Genius. Let the kids run all day without actually going very far. The entire playground is padded with a mixture of soft matting and sand.
There are two sets of swings, an extra single swing closer to the playground plus a tyre swing. There is also another great little area with water play – there’s gates to open and wheels to turn for kids who just love all things mechanical.

Throughout the park there are various log steps and wooden planks, as well as a bridge that crosses the small creek. There are water areas surrounding the park, so be extra careful to keep an eye on little wanderers.
Having the support and friendship of other mums who are living the same experience is important for the well-being of every mum. Here are 7 reasons to join a real-world mums group:
The playground has a large undercover picnic area with barbeques a huge grassed area for kicking the footy around. There’s also a basketball ring within the grassed area. There is also a toilet and change facilities. Parking, however, is very limited in the area.

You will find the park in the Newhaven Estate on Mason Road in Piara Waters, near the Stockland Newhaven Sales and Information Centre. It’s certainly worth a look for kids of all ages.
