If you’re looking for childcare that empowers your child to learn about themselves, others and the world through play-based, child-led programmes in a warm, nurturing environment - look no further than Nedlands School of Early Learning.
This homely centre offers thoughtfully curated indoor and outdoor spaces, conveniently located less than 10 minutes from Dalkeith, Swanbourne, Cottesloe, Shenton Park, Peppermint Grove, & Claremont.
Schools of Early Learning (SOEL) is one of the longest-running childcare providers in Perth, and one of the few that remains family-owned. Since unveiling the preliminary version of the Nedlands centre in 1974, SOEL has established itself as a pioneer in early childhood education and care, earning the trust of parents across Perth and setting a benchmark for the industry.
SOEL has always prioritized creating beautiful, well-designed spaces that are integral to children’s development. These spaces are not merely for children to interact with but are environments they actively help to shape and care for, fostering a sense of ownership, responsibility, and a deep connection to their learning surroundings.
"SOEL was one of the first approved childcare providers in Australia to introduce educational programmes and one of the first to adapt the teachings of Reggio Emilia into their existing programmes and practice, prioritising children’s holistic development", SOEL founder Bernadette Giambazi explained.
SOEL's philosophy emphasises the holistic development of each child, incorporating elements of the Reggio Emilia approach, Rudolf Steiner and Maria Montessori. This approach values children as strong, capable, and resilient individuals, viewing them as active researchers and valued participants in the world around them. It is this belief that has guided the creation of dedicated spaces, such as Atelier Studios, where children explore, create, and collaborate on projects. These spaces encourage children to express themselves and develop skills that will benefit them for a lifetime.
"As they discovered, experimented, and revisited these projects, children learned to develop empathy, compassion, and a sense of responsibility towards others and the world around them," Ms Giambazi shared.
Schools of Early Learning was established 50 years ago by Bernadette Giambazi and is now run by her daughters.
"She (Bernadette) was a pioneer in developing programs and a very outspoken advocate for the rights of the child, parents and young working women," Sarah Giambazi said of her mother, who later became the Child Care Association of WA president.
Parents are drawn to the Schools of Early Learning's educational philosophy and facilities, which put the centres in a league of their own and have proved so effective that operators from around the world are keen to employ the model.
Now with a 7 location strong network, SOEL centres have maintained this commitment to children’s growth and development, and to nurturing the unique needs of every child.
But don’t just take our word for it - experience this unique centre for yourself at the Nedlands School of Early Learning 'Creative Open Day' on Saturday, March 22nd! Running from 9am to 11am and located on Government Road in Nedlands, this event offers an opportunity for your child to engage with the inspiring Atelier studio space whilst you explore the centre and chat to the team.
