My Family Photo - Shoot
Getting a decent family photo is a mission at the best of times to capture our nutty party of four, and even though my husband and I have taken a million group selfies - not one has been framed or deemed worthy for display.
But I've often avoided professional family portraits due to lack of time, funds and faith in my childrens ability to actually sit through a session.
I must confess I am one of those parents ushering my kids at warp speed past shopping centre photographers for fear of being accosted by bubbly assistants luring them in with the promise of shiny toys and attention.
No doubt like most families, our kids are super active and thrive in an environment where there is space to run and be free. Our best photos seem to always come from being out and about and when we're having spontaneous fun as a family.
My Family Photo offers a "mini-session" that runs for half an hour in an outdoor setting where kids being crazy is actually encouraged and captured.
Our photo session was held at the beautiful location of Manning Park on a scorcher of a day, so luckily there was plenty of shade.
Our photographer Katie was an absolute dream and a joy to be photographed by. She created a warm and friendly atmosphere from the beginning, putting us at ease and completely winning over our children with total professionalism and fantastic humour (what child isn't going to smile at the delightful yet classic tones of a bottom burp!).
She was so good that the kids could have cared less about the colossal playground nearby, all they wanted to do was hang out with her!
We were debriefed about the tone of the session and style of photos Katie was hoping to capture, as well as being given an opportunity to make our own requests and suggestions.
There was a nice balance of photos of everyone individually, in pairs and of course the family shots which were great fun. None of it felt posed, even with Katie directing us to look at one another or tickle the kids, or she'd drop the infamous flatulent noise that all made for some gorgeously genuine and candid photos.
The shoot itself was perfect and seemed to be all done and wrapped up swiftly without feeling like we were rushed or pressured to perform. Half an hour is a dream especially with hyperactive young ones on a 40 degree day.
There was plenty of flexibility to go with the kids' flow rather than plonk them down and extract a forced smile out of them.
My Family Photo run seasonal mini-sessions at various locations that are posted on the website for families to book into. The process is user friendly, very simple and all the info is sent in an email with links to a detailed booking form as well as answers to FAQ's.
After the session is done families are sent an email with a link to all the photos taken in both colour and black and white. For time poor parents this part of the process was seamless with no codes, passwords, or clunky back and forth swapping into different tabs! Just open the link and all the photos taken will appear.
To select which ones you want to keep simply click on the heart which creates a Favourites file and email through your colour preference and payment method if you've chosen any extras. I found it foolproof and totally doable in the dying hours of the day laughably known as "me" time!
The only issue with having so many gorgeous snaps is the difficulty of choosing 15. However you can purchase extra photos for $30 each or the whole lot for $150 (on top of mini session package).
You can also choose to receive your chosen 15 photos in both colour and black and white for an extra $25. We were happy with the value for money of our $165 package which included the fabulous photo shoot, easy access to our online catalogue and the USB stick with the final edited photos which was sent out rather swiftly.
On receiving our little USB stick the kids were super keen to have a look at the final products. It was lovely to go through each photo with them and we can't wait to share with family and friends. The final edits were amazing and you can really see the difference in having a professional capture special moments which resulted in quality photos.
If you are looking for professionalism and high quality photography at a very reasonable cost I highly recommend My Family Photos. The entire experience was not only enjoyable for our family but a wonderfully convenient, uncomplicated and efficient process with beautiful results. We are thrilled with the end product and would definitely book them again.
