Yes - kids like stinking, disgusting slop. They don’t need complex plot lines, too many characters or too many bells and whistles. They like slapstick comedy, simple yet stupid dialogue, chaos and downright wacky antics.
They like jokes about dog poo, peeing the bed and of course, audience participation!
Mr Snotbottom’s Horrible Terrible Really Really Bad Bad Show has all of this. Put simply, it’s a comedy show for kids. It’s about all the things kids love that parents find gross and irritating, but done in a way that will have you laughing out loud one second and groaning the next.
My four-year-old was laughing just about the loudest of all when Mr Snotbottom appeared on stage with his pants on his head, trying his hardest to get the show started but failing miserably - he just keeps messing things up!
Together with ‘stage technician’ Anthony, Mr Snotbottom continues to try and get his ‘fantastic show’ started and for the next hour, there are arguments, malfunctioning equipment, instruments made from cleaning equipment, lots of funny noises and the most disorganised man in the history of the earth.
It is an hour of pure entertainment for the kids and will have them shrieking with laughter at the simple things. It was such a delight to see my daughter cracking and smiling at all the silly jokes - she still talks about the t-shirt with the words ‘I love dog poo’ and ‘I want to marry Peppa Pig’ imprinted on them.
Mr Snotbottom is the brainchild of Australian stand-up comedian Mark Trenwith, who is known for his distinct physical and clownish style. He has an array of Australian film and TV projects to his name, including 'Peaches' with Hugo Weaving and a major role as super-hero 'Bounce-Back Man' in ABCTV's children's program 'Being Me’.
He appears regularly as 'Captain Starlight,' a super-hero who entertains ill children at the Royal Children's Hospital and is a previous Adelaide Comedian of The Year Winner and Melbourne Comedy Festival Moosehead Award recipient. Mr Snotbottom was nominated for Best Children's Event at Fringe World in 2019.
If you would like to take your children to a Fringe World Show in 2020, this is a great introduction to the festival. Mr Snotbottom is the type of silly comedy kids love, so you know they will be laughing well after the show has finished.
