I recently came home to a little jar of flowers on my door step, sent to me by a friend, and they were so beautiful and quirky I had to find out who made them.

The flowers sent to me by a friend

It turns out the jars are made by Tanya Locke at Little Love Blooms and unlike most fresh flower arrangements in Perth, these cute little jars are only $30 and include delivery to a number of suburbs (within about 20km of Fremantle). This makes them a very affordable and quirky way of sending love to a friend without breaking the bank.

Tanya is a Perth-ite who started the jar delivery service to compliment her wedding hire service Little Love Story but what it has also done is to change the way Perth people think about flower delivery.

Tanya loves all things floral

The jars change every day and Tanya often buys flowers simply based on their beauty, her mood or the weather that day. She says “if it is a cool windy morning I may walk out of the flower markets with deep moody colours like plums and burgundy, or if it is a bright and happy morning I may walk out with a heap of sunflowers.”

The daily jars are available between Monday and Friday and the image of the blooms are uploaded between 9 and 9.30am. Orders are taken until midday or until the jars are sold out, and the deliveries are made between midday and 4pm.

Making between 15 and 20 jars a day, they often sell out, but if you are worried about missing out you can pre-order the following days pot through the website. Pre-ordering means you never know what beautiful blooms you will receive. You can also order larger jars from $50, and each jar is adorned with a ribbon and gift tag, so you can include a message.

Floral wreaths for weddings

If you want to spoil yourself (or someone you love), you buy a one month subscription, receiving a jar of blooms once a week for a month for only $112.

I asked Tanya if she had any advice for other Perth women wanting to start their own business and she said:

“Start small, working on weekends and keeping your other main source of income. When you feel you are knocking back mid-week enquiries and orders due to your 9-5 job, and you do the maths that you'd be earning almost the same amount - then that is your time to jump into it completely. Don't hold back, give it everything you've got but remember it is important to allow yourself some down time away from growing your business. No emails after 6pm!”
