LOCATION: Evans Street, Shenton Park

MAIN FEATURES: large covered playground, sandpit, toddler area, lake, toilet, BBQ/tables

Lake Jualbup is a stunning park in the heart of Shenton Park. With a large natural lake and island, the park attracts a large amount of birds, swans, ducks and other wildlife.

FEATURES
There is an immense amount of lush green grass (year round) and paths around the lake suitable for prams, bikes and scooters.

There are two play areas, both located in the south east corner (Excelsior Street). The smaller of the two is built on soft-fall and has a swing, climbing frame and other equipment suitable for younger children. This small area is shaded by trees but not covered.

Less than 100m away, the larger playground is built into an enormous sand pit and is shaded by sails. It incorporates a large rope climbing area plus swings, a see-saw and a cubby with slides. There are a number of challenging elements in the rope climb dome that makes it suitable for older children.

There is a BBQ and some covered picnic tables in this area of the park, however the toilet is located at quite some distance at the other end of the park.

The park also has a stunning rotunda which would be suitable for parties (or weddings) but which may need to be booked in advance . The park is well maintained and very popular with mothers groups and school groups.

PARKING
There is ample parallel parking in the streets surrounding the park. Evans and Excelsior Streets are the closest to the play areas. Parking is free.

COFFEE FACILITIES
Excelsior Deli is the closest – a two minute walk away from the park, located on the corner of Excelsior St and Onslow Road. It has a great reputation for good coffee and is open from 7am-4pm weekdays, 7am-3pm Saturday and is closed Sunday.

Just up the street (no more than five minutes walk from the playground) there is a Lawleys Café and IGA in the Onslow Road shopping centre.

FOR MUMS IN THE KNOW
While the stunning lake is one of the park’s best features, it also provides a potential hazard. While the playground is not precisely on the water’s edge, it is only a short walk to the reeds around the lake.

Watch out for duck poo.

As it is quite a walk to the toilet, be prepared.
