Just some of the reasons to take the kids to Bunnings!
Ahhhhh, Bunnings. The hardware giant is THAT place I go to with my two preschoolers when I don’t quite have the motivation to take them to the park or playground on a weekend or during school holidays. I'm not even joking - they love going to Bunnings!
And why not? There’s always something I need, from cleaning supplies to storage tubs or pool chemicals to plants. Plus, not only do they have a playground and those cute little child-size trollies that the kids go
car-azy over, but they also offer workshops and special events. And they serve coffee! In case you need an excuse to go to Bunnings with the kids, here are some to consider.
Some stores have a playground
Many Bunnings stores in WA have a small, indoor playground. It’s gated and usually has a multi storey play structure to climb and a slide. The playgrounds are typically located right next to the cafe too, which is always a bonus for parents. Just make sure you check the Bunnings website to see if your local Bunnings has a playground as some of the smaller stores don’t
Kids DIY workshops
Bunnings has regular DIY projects just for the kids. During these workshops they can take part in a range of crafts and projects such as making toolboxes to planter boxes, toy trucks, garden craft and more. There are different themes and workshop is aimed at children over 5 years and are designed to get kids interested in DIY, the home and gardening. You can see what workshops are coming up at your nearest store and make a booking online. Check out their online DIY videos for kids too here!
Here are just some of the workshops taking place in Perth this year:
Totem Pole craft workshops
Mother’s Day and Father’s Day craft
Christmas and Easter craft
Workshops for Parents
Bunnings has some awesome DIY workshops for parents and carers that
may help parenting get just a bit easier, including the below:
How to childproof your home
How to Select and Install the Right Clothesline (for that never-ending pile of washing)
Making Your Home Safe and Sound
Get Kitted Out For Camping
Kids products
Bunnings has soooooo many cool items for kids to get them outdoors, including gardening kits and equipment, seed planting kits, colourful raised garden beds, watering cans, sandpits, playgrounds and play equipment, plus kids-sized camping chairs and equipment. They also sell awesome indoor activities such as washable paint (the best) and kids arts and craft project kits.
Food and drink
Turn up to Bunnings in any given weekend and might find a Sausage Sizzle offering a snag, roll, sauce and onions for just a few dollars! Not only is this a bargain lunch but you’ll also be contributing to a community group or local cause, so eat up! Many Bunnings Warehouses also have a cafe serving coffee and other hot drinks, cold drinks and a range of snacks, but again, check the website to see if your local has a cafe.
In-store and special events
Along with the workshops, many Bunnings stores have family and kids’ events on a regular basis. Here are just some of the examples:
Cockburn offers face painting or glitter tattoos following the Kids DIY Workshops.
Belmont runs their Easter Family Night featuring lots of entertainment, sausage sizzle, hot cross buns, Easter Egg Hunt, animal farm and more.
East Vic Park runs their Family Night featuring an educational and hands on display of Australian birds of prey, face painting, Easter egg hunt, free sausage sizzle, kids Easter DIY and more!
Port Kennedy will feature a cooking demonstration with Anna Gare!
Charity events such as the World’s Greatest Shave
Regular 'Family Nights' for Mother's Day, Father's Day, Easter and Christmas, in which the whole family can take part in crafty activities and DIY.
Those child-sized trollies
Where else can you find pint-sized trollies just for the kids? My girls LOVE having their own trolleys. It certainly slows us down and stops them from running amok and annoying the other shoppers.
Righto, I’m off to Bunnings with the kids for some washable paint and floor cleaner.
