Nestled on the outskirts of Fremantle, Kerry Street Community School is a unique educational experience, with families at the heart of everything they do.

This not-for-profit, progressive independent primary school was founded in 1981 by a group of parents who sought a deeper involvement in their child’s education. Kerry Street is not just a school, but rather community of learners both in and out of the classroom.

40 years on, Kerry Street Community School continues to provide an alternative educational experience, inspiring collaborative, creative and authentic learning.

It’s an environment in which students and staff are encouraged to work together to design and create working spaces in the classroom. Classrooms are reflective of the school itself - welcoming, comfortable and supportive of its families.



Families, parents and carers are invited to help in the classroom or the garden, or just come along and be a part of their child’s daily routine, helping to contribute to a safe, vibrant atmosphere.

Teaching staff work closely with Education Assistants to deliver Australian Curriculum and Western Australian Curriculum Framework while catering for each child’s particular learning requirements. The school runs a number of specialist programs, alongside Visual Arts, Drama, Music and Languages.

Working within multi-age classrooms, staff cater for and respond to the needs and talents of students as individuals, allowing children to work freely at their own rate and without comparison.
