The heart of the City of Perth is alive with magical displays as it hosts the Winter Lights at Brookfield Place event.
The heritage buildings inside this business precinct have been turned into a circus for a few days as clever illuminations project playful scenes onto the walls. Little Miss Sunshine (3) and Master B (6) were spellbound by the stunning show.
The spellbinding circus illuminations
There are several different art installations to see as we walked through the pedestrianised area tucked behind St Georges Terrace. In the Heritage Square area we stopped to see ‘Florescentia’, blossoming paper flowers that open and close to sequences of movement and colour animations. In the Main Square area, we took in ‘Mountain of Light’, a 4m high volcanic eruption of light and sound.
Master B was totally mesmerised by the UV spaghetti, a series of suspended ropes lit up in neon yellow. We enjoyed wrapping them around ourselves, and making them into braids and silly hairdos!

At selected times there are roving performers and live circus shows adding to the atmosphere.
Brookfield Place is one of Perth’s iconic destinations, bringing together modern office space, cultural experiences, dining and shopping. There are plenty of tempting places to stop for a bite to eat or a warming drink on a cool winter’s night. A range of food trucks will also roll in from 11-13 July.
