A great little nature-based park on the banks of the gorgeous Champion Lakes Regatta Centre.
Iím always on the lookout for parks and playgrounds to take my two toddlers to, and this week we discovered Joe Saunders Park at Champion Lakes.
This great little nature-based playground is located on the verge of the Champion Lakes Regatta Centre, a man-made aquatic sporting facility for rowing, kayaking and dragon boating.
It is most suitable for toddlers and preschool aged children and has age-appropriate play equipment including a small climbing frame and rope play.
One of the coolest features of the play space is the play kitchen! This type of play equipment is great for encouraging imaginary play and for cooking up a meal for mum.
The playground also has a swing set and plenty of nature based play, such as rocks and of course, sand to dig around in.
For older toddlers, there is a set of stone steps to clamber up and enjoy the views of the lake.
The lake has a pathway around it that is suitable for prams, strollers and wheelchairs, and after we had a play we went for a short walk along the lake. Just off the walking path, along the lake, there are various picnic shelters and places to sit. There some fencing between the park and the path next to the lake, but you will need to keep an eye on children at all times while at the park.
The playground has public barbeques and two undercover picnic shelters in the immediate vicinity. There are no toilets at the park, and none in the surrounding area as it is based in a largely residential area. There is parking available.
Joe Saunders Park is a lovely spot for a picnic, play or a walk with the kids. The youngest kids will love it and it will provide a couple of hours entertainment out of the house.
