For so many people, Christmas is their favourite time of year filled with family, fun and festivities. But for many disadvantaged Western Australians, Christmas can be the most difficult time of the year – a time of feeling lonely or when the family budget is absolutely stretched to the limit. It’s a time of despair and desperation, but there are things you can do to help the less fortunate at Christmas. Here’s how you can help.

Christmas Lunch in the Park – Mission Australia
Date: Monday, 25th December from 11am.
Address: Wellington Square, East Perth.
Website: For more details, click here

For over 40 years, Mission Australia has hosted Christmas Lunch in the Park in Perth on Christmas Day, in which disadvantaged Western Australians can come along and have a Christmas lunch. While the application process for volunteers has now closed, you can join the waitlist if you are interested in volunteering. Alternatively, you can buy someone a Christmas lunch for just $30 or make a donation to the cause online by clicking here.

Unfortunately, Christmas isn’t a time of happiness and joy for a lot of people, especially the homeless. Every year Mission Australia helps thousands of people in need with food, accommodation, clothing and goods. You can make a donation to Mission Australia and help those in need.

K-Mart Wishing Tree Appeal

The K-Mart Wishing Tree Appeal is back again for 2017. This long-running appeal was set up in 1988 as a way for disadvantaged children and families to receive a gift at Christmas time. It is run in conjunction with Mission Australia and the Salvation Army. To contribute, you can give a gift or money in store or make an online contribution.

Foodbank WA and Give A Feed
Websites: https://www.foodbankwa.org.au and http://www.giveafeed.com.au

Foodbank WA is a charity dedicated providing quality food to those in the community who need it the most, and Give A Feed is an arm of the charity supporting Foodbank’s Christmas Hamper Appeal. You can Give A Feed as a gift or donate non-perishable food items into the Giving Boxes at Perth’s shopping centres. Donations can be made throughout Christmas and into the new year.

Donate a toy or gift through the Smith Family
Website: https://toyandbook.thesmithfamily.com.au

Every year the Smith Family helps children in need by donating gift packs. You can help by purchasing a gift pack online. With gifts ranging in price starting from $25, there’s lots of packs to choose from to suit all budgets. You can also make a monetary donation online.
