How to understand child care ratings and choose the right one for you.
Starting Blocks is a free government website that provides parents with information about early childhood education and care to help them make the best choice for their child and family.
Up until recently, parents searching for child care had to rely on a range of research measures to support their choice of service, such as word of mouth advice, internet searches or their gut feeling after visiting a local provider.
Some families are still unaware that child care services are assessed and rated under the National Quality Standard (NQS), which can help inform them about a service before they make their choice.
This assessment and rating process is conducted by a services’ local regulatory authority in each state and territory, which aims to improve the quality of early childhood education and care services in Australia. Providing children with quality experiences early in life can lead to better health, education and employment outcomes, building a productive and fair Australia.
Visit the Starting Blocks website for lots of information on your child’s developmental milestones, at home activities and to conduct your own child care search – simply pop in your postcode and view your local child care services and see how they rated!
