Before motherhood, kebabs were generally reserved for the end of a big night out. Now, I’ve discovered an entirely new kind of kebab – the Chocolate Kebab.
Happy Larry’s Chocolate Kebabs in Perth's Carillon City Food Court is a fresh concept in desserts and sweet snacks. Just like your favourite greasy lamb kebab with all the trimmings, you can choose exactly what you want on it.

And, just like the rotating lamb rotisserie you find in a kebab shop, Happy Larry’s instead have a giant, rotating block of chocolate, which is shaved and added to the dessert kebab. Genius.
As this was my first visit to Perth’s first and only dessert kebab bar, I asked what the choices were, and was met with an overwhelming myriad of different sweets – two scoops of gelato, cream, my choice of topping, shaved chocolate and sauce – all served in a delicious, soft crepe.

I settled on a scoop of chocolate gelato and a scoop of salted caramel. The other choices of gelato included vanilla, Mars Bar and cookies and cream. Mmmmmm.
Then – more decisions. I chose strawberries (I had to have some sort of fruit in the mix, after all) and digestive biscuits, although gummy bears, chopped peanut and popcorn would have all made for interesting kebabs.
Next, the shaved chocolate is added, along with a choice of chocolate or caramel sauce. The crepe is freshly made and the ingredients carefully added.
So, was it any good? Well, it took deliciousness to a whole new level. The ice cream flavours complimented each other well, while the crepe was fresh and warm and to put it simply, it just works. Kebabs are priced at around $13 for one, but look out for special deals online.
The kids will love a chocolate kebab as a treat, but just make sure they aren’t wearing their Sunday best, as they are sure to get a little messy in the process.
