Having the support and friendship of other mums who are living the same experience is important for the well-being of every mum. Here are 7 reasons to join a real-world mums group:
When you arrive at the LeisureFit centre, follow the red paw prints marked on the floor to the Gymbakids room. The class starts off in an activity room with a warm-up on a mat on the floor that involves stretches, movement and use of small equipment such as scarves, Koosh balls, rings and balls for textural stimulation and coordination. Songs, rhymes and music are integrated with movement to keep things fun.
Soft slide down to the foam pit
After the warm-up has been completed, the group moves into the Gymbakids indoor playground. The indoor playground is set up as an unstructured circuit with the equipment and theme changing every four weeks. Slides, swings, trampolines, balance beams, tunnels, climbing frames, soft blocks, bridges, cargo nets, poles and a flying fox are all equipment that may feature as well as things to throw, things to stack and a favourite amongst the kids – a ball pit. Most of the equipment and flooring is padded and soft to allow kids to explore and develop their coordination and motor skills without fear of injury.
The ball pit is a favourite with the kids
The class concludes with a farewell song and the kids (except for those in the Bandicoot group) are given an ink stamp. Kids in the Koala group get stamped on their feet, the Platypus and Joey group get stamped on their hands and the children in the Possum group get to choose where to have their stamps.

The Gymbakids indoor playground is available on Saturdays, Sundays and during school holidays for an unstructured PlayTime for children aged 6 months to 7 years. The cost for this is $8 for a two hour session between 10am and 12pm. The indoor playground is also available for use for birthday parties. These run for two hours with the first hour in the Gymbakids indoor playground and the second hour in a party room. Parties can be held on a Friday from 3:30pm to 5:30pm, which gives exclusive use of the indoor playground. Otherwise, parties can be held on Saturday or Sundays 10am to 12pm or 11am to 1pm, with the indoor playground shared with others attending for a PlayTime session. The cost to hold a party starts from $130 for up to 20 children.
The LeisureFit Melville centre has crèche facilities if you want to attend for your own exercise needs. The AH Bracks Library is also co-located on the site with free Baby Rhyme Time and Storytime sessions held during school terms. A coffee van is often present near the entrance if you need a caffeine boost or snack after the Gymbakids class.
Free Baby Rhyme Time and Storytime sessions are held at the library
