For some women (such as me), dress shopping is a major source of anxiety and angst. Standing in cramped and poorly lit dressing rooms, while over-zealous shop assistants pound on the door trying to ‘help’.
For others, trying to find a gown for a special event may be made impossible by work or family commitments or living in a rural location.
For some, financial difficulties might mean that buying a new dress to wear to your sister’s wedding or son’s graduation is out of the question.
One answer to all of these problems is hiring a dress – by mail. No pushy sales assistants. You can try them on in the comfort of your own home, in your own time, and when you are done, simply place it in the pre-paid satchel and send it back. No washing or dry cleaning required.
Glam Corner is an Australia-wide hire service where you can select a designer gown online, and have it delivered in perfect condition, to your front door.
Glam Corner offer more than 800 top-quality, high end designer dresses in more than 330 styles from famous names across the globe, including Alex Perry, Manning Cartell, Sass and Bide, Costarella and Camilla. There are dresses suitable for any event from being mother of the bride, school balls, weddings, graduation dinners, dressy work dinners, anniversaries and more.
Perhaps you just want to feel fabulous during school drop-off on your 40th birthday, no one here is going to judge you.

For those of us who are ‘plus size’ (ie. anyone larger than a size 14) the range is admittedly limited, especially for sizes 16-18. For everyone else, the range is eye watering. But with new dresses arriving every week, Glam Corner are hoping to double their collection by mid-2016 (and hopefully broaden their plus size range as well).
I had only one question: How do you know if the dress will actually fit?
To take the guess work out, you can use their Try On Service – simply choose two dresses to try on for only $30 (no postage fee). You keep them for a day to try on at your leisure, and return them - with tags on - within 24 hours.
They also offer a fit guarantee – if the dress doesn’t fit or you just don’t like it, then you can return it with the tags on within 24 hours and they will either send you a new dress (or different size) at no extra cost, or refund your money.
I found the user reviews useful – other customers rate the dresses and how well they fit based on body shape and size. It’s like bringing a friend along to the change room with you.
Your dress arrives wrapped carefully in tissue paper with a hand written note
Getting ready for a big event is made as easy as possible – all you need to do is find a babysitter.
You can hire accessories such as fascinators, handbags and jackets, and buy little helpers (such as shapewear) and jewellery. Not sure what dress to try on? Call or email the team of stylists, or if you are really stuck you can book a one-on-one chat with a stylist who will call you at a time of your choosing, and talk you through the process of finding the right dress for your next event.
Hire fees range from $59 to $479 (for an exclusive Hermes dress), with most of the dresses under $200, and the price includes return postage, dry cleaning costs and $100 insurance in case of accidental damage.
There is an extra fee of $7.95 to cover delivery costs (not for the try on service) and the dresses arrive boxed and wrapped carefully.
A $3,000 gown to wear to your next parent/teacher meeting
Glam Corner offer their service to Perth women, and can deliver anywhere there is a mail box or PO Box. Dresses will arrive within 2-3 days, so it is best to check with the stylists when you should book the dress to ensure it arrives in time for your event.
There is even a choice of 4 day and 8 day hire periods (so you can hire a dress and take it on your next girls’ weekend to Bali!).
