A peaceful park close to the airport that is great for a family picnic or walk.

Garvey Park is a peaceful spot along the water in Ascot that is fantastic for a family outing or a picnic.

As the park is located not too far from Perth Airport, it makes for a great spot to stop at if you are trying to kill some time before heading to the airport and letting the kids burn off some energy before catching your flight!



I recently paid a visit with my two toddlers before a trip to the nearby Belmont Forum . I can safely say my two girls appreciated the wide expanses of the park to run about in.



Garvey Park has a small playground that is most suited to toddlers and preschoolers and has a small play structure with ropes and a slide, a single seat roundabout and other little bits of play equipment.

You will find walking paths throughout the park, which make it easy to push a pram around for a brisk walk before a play.



The walking paths are also highly suitable for bicycles, and there is even a fantastic repair station with screwdrivers and spanners in case you have any trouble with your bike.



There is a kiosk at the site, although it didn’t appear to be open when we visited. According to the City of Belmont website, the kiosk is open weekdays from 7am to 2:30pm and on weekends from 7am to 4pm.



The adjoining toilets were open, and as any parent to a preschooler knows, toilets are always handy. There are a couple of barbecues around the park, plus picnic tables and benches. When we visited a big group had set up camp for a morning tea in the park.



As mentioned, Garvey Park is located along the Swan River, so always keep an eye on children around the water. There are plenty of ducks frequenting the area!



Garvey Park is also the location of several fun family events each year. It is a lovely spot to take the kids for a picnic, play or walk and to chill out for a morning or afternoon.
