A night out at the cinema with my little ones has the potential to cause any number of headaches. Will they behave themselves? Will they be able to stay quiet? Will they be able to sit still?

Thankfully I live within a short drive of Perth’s only drive-in, The Theatre!



Located conveniently in Kingsley the Theatre offers up an interesting night out without breaking the bank. A trip to the drive-in for myself and my three children (aged 9, 4, and 2) on a Wednesday or Thursday night costs me a grand total of $17! What a bargain!

Operating Tuesday to Sunday the drive-in screens the same movie each night for between one and two weeks. Friday to Sunday they screen a double feature; showing a second film after a brief intermission. In my experience Wednesday and Thursday are the least busy days of the week. However, if you are after good value Tuesday night’s entry cost is only $20 per vehicle.



There is a small café on site serving up a variety of hot foods and refreshing drinks but I find it is cheaper to bring my own with me. A packed picnic, a quick stop at Dominos for a pizza, or a run through a drive through for dinner and we are all set.

The area where you park your car is admittedly not the greatest looking car park however it is adequate for the job with its best feature being rises at the end of each bay to better angle your car to view the screen. If you are fortunate enough to own a 4WD, ute, wagon, van, or any other vehicle with a boot space big enough to lounge around in you are able to park your car facing away from the screen and use your boot as a lounging area.

Unlike old style drive-ins who had small speakers that you would attach to you car window, the Galaxy runs audio through a specific radio station. Have no fear though, should you accidentally run your car battery flat leaving your radio playing for the duration of the film they do keep jumper cables on site.

This would have to be one of our all time favourite outings and a great trip down memory lane.
