Fun Fact'ry in Mandurah is a basic indoor play centre for children. Located in a large air conditioned warehouse on Gordon Road, it lacks many of the mechanical extras found in other play centres but its simplicity means that it doesn't suffer the enormous crowds other centres can have.
What Fun Fact'ry does have is space, with three separate gated areas: one for 0-12 months (with assorted play mats, doors, swings and tables perfect for new babies and crawlers), a slightly larger area for five years and under with a mini plastic climbing area, cubby house and giant connect four game, and the largest area for older kids. There are couches throughout the Centre, perfect for breastfeeding mums, tired kids and parents who want a comfy seat close to the action.
The baby area
The main area has large slide: two storeys tall with three tracks so kids can race each other. There are also a couple of other tube slides that twist around the outside of the large climbing area, and various other obstacles and tubes. While big, the set-up is quite simple.
A separate bouncy castle and two coin operated carousels (like you would see at the shops) complete the area. There are some couches and a bookshelf for a kids reading corner, which is a lovely idea though rather incongruous considering it is a play centre.
The racing slides are the big winner here and for kids who just want to run and climb and bounce and slide, then Fun Fact'ry is spot on. We visited during the school holidays, at a time of day you would expect it to be at its busiest. There were half a dozen families which meant the was no queuing for rides, plenty of space at the cafe, you could always see where your kids were. The kids had a great time - they thought there was plenty to do and I liked that it was quiet-ish.
There is a cafe on-site with the usual offerings: hot food, sandwiches, toasties, cakes and muffins. The carrot cake is Sara Lee, one of my favourites. Prices are reasonable ($2.50 for a vegemite sandwich, $3 for a 2L jug of cordial, $7.50 for the kids lunch combos with chips and drinks) and they do have healthy options.
Fun Fact'ry is open daily from 9.30am to 5pm except Wednesdays during term when it closes at 1pm. Adults and children under one are free, 1-5 years are $8.50 and 6-12 years $10.50.
Turanga Music is the perfect way to engage your kids in music, whether it be for the first time or as a booster to their instrumental learning for aural and music theory. Running every Saturday throughout September at Bull Creek Community Centre.
