Up in the Perth Hills, you’ll find Embers Restaurant, a gorgeous family-friendly restaurant that’s open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, plus takeaways, and has a gourmet deli attached.
After driving around the Hills for a while, it was well and truly time to stop as our toddler became increasingly cranky. We arrived late morning, and were hopeful the lunch menu had kicked in. We were in luck. Breakfast hadn’t quite finished but the chef was prepared to start lunch for us. What service!
There was plenty of space to sit, both inside and outside, plus a stack of highchairs at our disposal. We were provided with menus and with such a huge number of delicious sounding Italian dishes to choose from, it took us a while to decide.
Embers also have an impressive kids menu, with options for breakfast, lunch and dinner. There are five breakfast choices and nine choices for lunch and dinner, plus two mini pizza options available after 5pm, plus a range of drinks and desserts, just for the kids.
I don’t really know of any kids who enjoy a sirloin steak for their lunch or dinner, but it’s on the menu, but so is the ‘chickaroonie’ or nuggets and chips, which most kids tend to opt for when they dine out. We chose the scrambled eggs on toasts for our toddler.
The lunch menu has so many options, it made it difficult to choose just one. My husband decided on the chilli mussels, while I went for the small sized tortellini carbonara. There are starters and light meals, mains, seafood, so many pasta dishes to choose from, plus salads and burgers and a full breakfast menu. Just to top it all off, you'll also find a large wine, beer and cocktail list, plus a dessert and coffee menu.
Small sized tortellini? Ha! I said to my husband that I would have hated to see the large. The small was generous enough, and it was easily the best tortellini I’ve had in a while. It was brimming with bits of bacon and mushroom and was coated in a lovely creamy sauce. My husband didn’t take too long to polish off the chilli mussels, and said they were some of the best he had tried.
Olivia’s portion of scrambled eggs was HUGE, for a kids meal. As with most of her food when dining out, it went largely untouched, which was a shame, but the eggs were certainly delicious.
It was well and truly nap time by now, so we hastily finished our meals and piled back in the car. But there is no doubt that this wouldn’t be our last visit to Embers, if this experience was anything to go by.
