Is there anything better for coffee loving parents than a cafe that has its own playroom? Nope – not really.

My daughter and I visited The Little Banksia Cafe in Kensington specifically for its playroom, but I also enjoyed some of the best pancakes I've ever had and my little girl didn't have to sit still for too long. It was a win-win.

We started by having a look around – it was exceptionally busy with a wide range of people, including single diners, couples, coffee drinkers and of course, people with children.

We scoped out the playroom before ordering. The owners have added a table in there, making the space rather limited, but kids don’t need a lot of space to play. You can request the room when booking, but I don't think that excludes other people’s children coming in and out for a play. My daughter certainly wasn't going to let that bother her play time.

I insisted we eat before having a play to avoid the mid-morning ‘hangry’ meltdown, so quickly ordered the buttermilk pancakes, a pot of tea and babyccino. At $23.50 all up, I did find it a bit pricey, but that was probably the only downside and realistically it is in line with Perth prices.

Our food arrived quickly after ordering. The babyccino was just like a little real cappuccino but went largely untouched by my tot, who decided it was far more fun to feed mummy the froth.

As for the buttermilk pancakes – OMG. That is the only way to sum up those delicious pancakes. They were fluffy and light and came with a delightful vanilla cream, a tiny pot of caramel sauce and sprinkled with tiny chocolate flakes. It didn’t take long to polish them off.

Finally, it was time to check out the playroom and have a play. There is a basket of toys, a little table and chairs and books to read. One thing I’ve noticed is that kids love to play with toys that aren’t theirs, so everything seemed lovely and new to my toddler.

After she had played for a while, it was time to go and we left happy and full. If you’re meeting friends for a coffee with the little ones in tow, this is definitely one child-friendly café to check out.
