Coral Bay is an absolutely stunning place to visit and makes for a fantastic family-friendly holiday!

If you’re seeking a great family get away for the summer school holidays, Coral Bay, a beautiful coastal town situated along Western Australia’s famous Ningaloo Reef, has a huge range of family-friendly activities and accommodation on offer. Here are five reasons you should consider Coral Bay for your next family holiday.

People’s Park Coral Bay
With campsites, powered caravan sites and self-catered cabins, People’s Park has something for every budget. Each cabin includes air-con, a fully serviced kitchen, TV and DVD player, while the family villas that can sleep up to three children and all have kitchenettes and dining facilities. Park facilities include a grocery store, tourist information, restaurant, toilet and shower blocks (including baby baths) and laundry facilities.

Bayview Coral Bay
Alternatively, Bayview Coral Bay offers powered caravan sites, basic cabins and chalets, plus self-contained motel-style units and one, two or three bedroom villas. The park has a laundry, swimming pool, restaurant, kids’ playground, tennis courts and barbeques.

Ningaloo Reef Resort
With an onsite restaurant and cafe, swimming pool, laundry and range of self-contained accommodation options, the Ningaloo Reef Resort is family friendly and a great place to relax. Like everywhere in Coral Bay, it is a short walk to the beach and town centre.

Holiday houses for rent
In addition to the above accommodation options, Coral Bay also has a number of houses available for rent. Many of them can sleep two adults and up to four people comfortably. If you’re a family of beach lovers, Coral Bay is the place for you. It is home to some gorgeous coastline that is perfect for a family day spent relaxing, building sand castles, swimming and snorkelling.

There’s lots of places to eat and drink

While most of the accommodation in Coral Bay is self-contained with a kitchenette, there’s also plenty of places to eat and drink if you just don’t feel like cooking. For snacks and sweet treats. As well as the local bakery, which stocks a range of pies, sandwiches, fresh bread and cakes, you’ll find formal dining options throughout the town, including Bill’s Tavern is a great destination for family-friendly lunch and dinner, while Fin’s Café serves breakfast and lunch. At the Ningaloo Reef Resort, Shade’s Café serves modern Australian cuisine for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Over at the Reef Café, you’ll find a range of gorgeous Italian pizzas and pastas.

Great family activities

Coral Bay has a heap of family-friendly activities on offer. During turtle nesting season between November and February, you can learn all about the local turtles and their habitats. The kids can get the chance to feed the local fish every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 3:30pm at Town Beach.

Fancy a spin?

If you’re a family of thrill seekers, the whole family can take a quad bike tour or view whale sharks and the local marine life in a glass bottom boat tour. For older kids and teens, you can also try snorkeling around the shallow and calm waters in Bill’s Bay. For more information about tours, read on here.

Take a day trip to Exmouth

Exmouth is around 90 minutes drive from Coral Bay, and has a heap of things to see and do, including the totally awesome Water Sprayground in the Exmouth Town Centre, the Jurabi Turtle Centre, plus the Potshot and Krait Memorials, which are a nod to Western Australia’s role in World War II. There’s also the Vlamingh Head Lighthouse, which is the perfect spot for whale watching, while the SS Mildura Wreck is worth a look.

The Exmouth Water Sprayground.

Coral Bay is located around 1200km north of Perth. You can drive there via the North West Coastal Highway and continuing to Exmouth-Minilya Road. Just be sure to pack plenty of activities to entertain the kids as it is a LONG drive. Alternatively, you can fly to Learmonth Airport, some 30km out of Exmouth, and you can hire a car from Exmouth. It's a big journey, but worth it once you are relaxing on the beach or by the pool.
