Learning to save the life of a child is one of the most valuable skills a parent can have. Even if you’ve done a life saving course in the past and think you are covered to use these skills on children, you may be surprised to learn that the skills needed to treat children and adults are quite different.

An adult course that just touches on kids really isn't good enough if you have little ones in the family. Steve Lewsen is a former ambulance officer and medical lecturer and specialises in the baby and toddler side of first-aid training. He has been running child-specific resuscitation and first aid courses for over 23 years for mums groups and playgroups.

Steve is exceptionally passionate about his work and is widely considered to be WA's most experienced medical lecturer, having taught over 20,000 parents a range of life-saving skills. Many parents have literally used the information from his courses to save the lives of their children.

Steve regularly runs courses in private homes and also at mums groups – often in the evening or on the weekend so dads can attend too. He offers a three-hour course, which covers CPR, choking and the basics of burns, poisoning and bleeding. He also offers a six-hour course (split into two, three-hour sessions) which covers CPR, choking, burns, poisoning, bleeding, allergic reactions, seizures, biters, fevers and more.

The courses are simple, fun and practical and will leave parents with the confidence to know what to do if their child suffers a serious injury. Parents who complete the course will also receive a CPR and first aid manual, first-aid reminder cards, first aid wall charts and emergency telephone stickers.

Steve has run a medical series on ABC Radio in both WA and Victoria, which was credited with saving a number of lives and has also been interviewed on Nine News after one of his students, a young mum, saved her child from choking shortly after completing the course.
