A lovely, child-friendly cafe in the heart of the Perth hills.

For my daughter's first birthday, I wanted to find somewhere that did a great slice of cake and was child friendly.

After a bit of research, we found ourselves at Elevated Grounds Coffeehouse in Kalamunda, in the Perth hills. Their website promised delicious cakes and a children’s play area. Sold!



We arrived at this charming little cafe and ordered coffee, a babyccino, juice and a slice of the richest looking red velvet cake I’d ever seen. We took a seat just next to the cute little play area, which has a wooden, toy aeroplane as the popular centrepiece. There is a mat on the floor, a box full of toys and various books to read.



Our coffees arrived after a short wait, along with the giant piece of cake. And oh my goodness, what a piece of cake it was! Layers of red velvet sponge and a delicious cream filling and icing. Simply delightful!



The birthday girl and I tucked in but my toddler was far too busy playing in the aeroplane. It was a rich, completely indulgent birthday treat to celebrate my baby's first year.



I enjoyed the coffee, while my three year old tucked into the babyccino between playing. The birthday baby also loved sitting in the aeroplane, pretending to be a pilot.



I would have loved to stay for lunch but I was so full from the cake practically had to roll myself out the door. Plus, much of the parking in the area is only one hour, so that also impacted our decision.



While we stopped in for a spot of morning tea, Elevated Grounds Coffeehouse is open from 7am and offers breakfast until 2:30pm, plus a range of sandwiches, snacks, sweet treats and drinks. Breakfast includes pancakes, eggs, bacon, smashed avo and grilled Haloumi. They are open until 5pm during the week and to 4pm on weekends.



There is indoor and outdoor seating, plus bowls of water available for your pooch.

The staff were welcoming and friendly, and our morning tea was served with a smile and a peekaboo or two for the baby!



We left having successfully enjoyed a slice of first birthday cake and a play. If you are seeking somewhere that offers delicious cake, lovely coffee and is child friendly, Elevated Grounds Coffeehouse is one to check out.
