ClueChase is a treasure hunt-style walking trail around Fremantle's favourite sites.

As someone who loves walking, getting out and about with my children and discovering our surrounds, I was thrilled to try a brand new treasure hunt around Fremantle.

ClueChase is a game that can be described as a treasure hunt crossed with an outdoor escape room-style game. If youíre not familiar with the escape room concept, it basically involves being locked in a room with a mystery to solve. There are clues to work out and things to find, all while the clock ticks away. You can read about Escape Hunt, an escape room in Fremantle, here.

I took my two children along with me, given we go most places together, and my sister and her two children aged 8 and 11 also joined us. My two children were seated in their pram, which made it easier to get around the streets while trying to solve the clues.

So hereís a brief overview of how it works. Upon arrival, a ClueChase staff member will brief you on each of the games available, Magic Portal and Operation Mindfall. If you have children attending too, Magic Portal is the easier game of the two, which is the game we chose.

Then, you are presented with an iPad and a ClueChase pack full of goodies to help you during the hunt. You will need to listen to the instructions given on the iPad and follow the map to each clue. Itís pretty straightforward - find each clue, solve a puzzle and complete the trail within the given time.

The hunt itself was about 1.5 km in total, and will take you on a loop of Fremantle. The attractions the clues are located at include Fremantle Prison, the Fremantle Markets, Esplanade Park and the Cafe Strip. Itís an easy enough walk, even with a pram to push around.

The clues and puzzles were easy enough to solve, and older children should be able to figure them out without too much help from the adults. We ran out of time, but that was always going to happen given we had two toddlers with us and we made a stop for ice cream at one stage. You have 90 minutes to complete the mission but if you do run out of time you can still complete the challenges, which we did.

ClueChase proved to be a fun way to spend some time with the kids and the family and a different way to see the sites of Fremantle. This treasure hunt style walk will have you thinking outside the box and doing something a little out of the ordinary for your morning or afternoon.
