California Pizza Kitchen in Hillarys ticks all the boxes when it comes to child-friendly dining. It may not tick all of the boxes for discerning adults with respect to the food and service, but sometimes that is one of the compromises that we have to make as parents!

The restaurant is located on the Sorrento Quay Boardwalk and boasts stunning marina views. There are plenty of seating options with space for prams and wooden high chairs are available. The flooring in the restaurant was either wooden flooring or polished concrete so it was good to not have to worry about inevitable food and spills potentially ruining carpet. The restaurant was bustling and busy so will drown out the noise from a screaming baby or a toddler tantrum.



There is a kids menu with a combination price of $14.50 for a kids pizza, pasta or salad and a drink. Chips and kids desserts are also available additionally. There is a 15% surcharge on public holidays. The kids menu doubles as a colouring in and puzzle booklet with the restaurant providing pencils for the kids to use.

The menu for adults features share plates, salads, pizza, pasta, main meat dishes, desserts and there is a limited but interesting drinks menu. We dined during a busy weekend lunch session and the service was slow which was not great for keeping a baby occupied and settled so the restaurant has room for improvement in that regard, although it may not be like that at other times. There is no WIFI in the restaurant so there was no opportunity to play a Wiggles YouTube video to keep the baby amused!



If the kids have finished eating or are bored while waiting, there is a kids zone with a chalk blackboard, a TV playing movies and soft cushion seats. There is a change table in the unisex toilet. The restaurant offers pizza making classes and restaurant tours for kids during school holidays, for birthday parties or for school excursions.
