Child-Friendly Dining At Zamia Cafe

There are so many aspects of Zamia Café that make it child friendly. First of all, it is located in Kings Park and is surrounded by lush green lawns where the kids can run around after break fast or lunch. It is within close proximity to the May Drive Parkland , where the kids can also play, and it has a great kids’ breakfast and lunch menu with plenty of choices.



Zamia Café is located on the May Drive side of Kings Park. You can sit outside on the veranda overlooking the gorgeous lake, or inside the spacious dining area. Since the veranda was unsurprisingly full, we sat inside and grabbed a high chair for my little one.



The menu is quite extensive, and is spilt into breakfast and lunch – breakfast is served from 8am to 11:30am and lunch is subsequently served from 11:30am to 3pm, while there is a small selection of meals that are available all day from 8am to 4pm.



After scouring the menu and the cabinet, I decided on the home made fruit and nut bread, while my dad chose the eggs on toast with a side of hash browns. The kids' breakfast menu, and with fruit salad, eggs on toast, bacon on toast and pancakes to choose from, while the lunch menu is even bigger.



The kids' lunch menu offers the usual favourites such as chicken nuggets, fish and chips and pizza, but it also has some different options, such as fresh fruit salad, croissant and grilled chicken with salad.

Our food and coffee arrived quickly, which was surprising given how busy the place was.



The home baked fruit and nut bread was certainly different to any other breakfast bread I'd had before - nutty, yet fruity and sweet, and was served with a delicious homemade preserve and butter. The poached eggs on toast were cooked to perfection - soft and runny, just as poached eggs should be. The hash browns were crunchy and hot.



The food was reasonably priced, although the price of each coffee was pushed up by $1 for a mug and another 50c by the fact that I had a decaf, bringing my price for a mug of coffee up to a whopping $5.90. I had forgotten just how expensive coffee in the city could be.



It wasn't long before Olivia was over the high chair and just wanted to run outside, so it was time to move on. We had enjoyed our meals but it was time to make a stop at the May Drive Parkland. One monster tantrum later and it was definitely time to go.

Overall the food was great and the kids' options are well and truly some of the best on offer. Plus, you really can't beat a cafe with a playground and heaps of space for the kids to run riot.
