It may not have a big fancy play area for the kids, but Jack Caddy’s Bistro in Canning Vale is positively child and family-friendly in lots of other ways.
First and foremost – they have a soft serve ice cream machine. Is there anything more kid-friendly in a restaurant than the opportunity for kids to help themselves to ice cream, sprinkles and topping? Ok, so it will cost you an extra $1.50 on top of the price of a kid’s meal, but it’s a small price to pay.
Plus, bring the kids in from Monday to Thursday night and they can eat for free when you purchase a main meal. There is an extensive range of kids’ meals to choose from, plus you can keep the kids busy (for a few minutes while you eat, at least) with an activity pack, which, along with a drink, is included in the price of the meal.
Jack Caddy’s Bistro is located within the Market City Tavern in Canning Vale's market complex, and we recently paid a visit on a Sunday night to try out the roast carvery. You can still purchase from the extensive a-la carte menu if a roast dinner isn’t your thing.
Our table ordered a mixture of the roast carvery and a-la carte dishes. The menu has heaps of choice and can only be described as modern Australian dining. Some of the choices include starters, salads, burgers, pizzas, plus a main menu that features 10 hour brisket, spring lamb, pork belly, pot pie and surf and turf.
Kids eat free Monday to Thursdays.
Our table ordered the sizzling seafood, a chicken parmigiana, a kids mac and cheese and a kids’ nuggets and chips. For everyone else, it was roasts all round.
The sizzling seafood.
For $19.95, you can load your plate with roast meats, pork crackle, cauliflower cheese, roasted vegetables, gravy and delicious Yorkshire puddings. I didn’t leave too much on my plate (ok, I didn’t leave anything) because it was all just too delicious. The pork and crackle was perfectly cooked, the cauliflower cheese was creamy and full of flavour, while the roast veggies were crispy and tasty. The price of the carvery also include the salad bar and dessert bar.
Mmmm. Just like mum's!
Kids are most welcome and eat free four nights a week!
There were no complaints from our table with the food - our meals were spot on and well received by all. The carver was certainly a popular choice among our group.
The parmi, complete with ham.
If you want a traditional roast dinner without the oodles of washing up at the end, Jack Caddy's is the place to go. It may not have been a home-cooked roast, but it certainly came very close to it.
