A child-friendly cafe serving delicious yet health conscious meals.

May Street Larder is a bustling brunch cafe located south of the river in East Fremantle. The cafe serves an all-day breakfast/lunch menu serving delicious health conscious meals with raw, gluten free, dairy free and vegan options. The menu changes regularly and features local seasonal produce and there is a daily special. Serious foodies should be impressed by fermented, pickled, cured, preserved and smoked items featured on the menu created on the premises.

May Street Larder is located on the corner of Canning Hwy and May St in East Fremantle

The cafe does not take bookings except for their high tea where bookings are essential. The cafe always seems to be busy, however, tables turn over quickly. There is limited space inside for prams, but a baby capsule shouldn’t be a problem. There are plenty of high chairs available and a kids play mat with toys and books. There is a baby change table in the unisex toilet. The cafe is busy and noisy enough that a screaming baby or toddler tantrum is unlikely to attract stares or rolled eyes. Orders are placed at the counter and you will need to collect your own cutlery and napkins from the counter. Self-service still and sparkling filtered water is available free of charge and meals are quickly brought out to your table.

The kids play area has toys and books

Kids milkshakes are available for $5 and are served in a cute glass jar with a retro red and white striped straw. Babyccinos are not on the menu but are available if you ask for one (and are free of charge). There are no specific kids meals, however, amongst the probiotic bowls and foodie fare are food items that should appeal to kids including toast, scrambled eggs, shoestring fries and maybe the chilaquiles, which are like fancy nachos. If not, then there are plenty of healthy cakes and slices that would be appealing.

Babycino is free of charge

Kids will love the play area and foodies will love this cafe!

As suggested by its name, the cafe features a larder selling food items such as jams and pickles made on site and honey gathered from the beehives on top of their sister restaurant Bib and Tucker in North Fremantle (which is also a child friendly dining venue). These make great foodie gifts or treat yourself and take something home. Small group workshops are run on a regular basis featuring different cooking techniques or different produce. The cafe offers a 10% discount on your order if you bring in a home grown bag of any kind of citrus fruit. Free parking is available in the carpark at the front of the cafe or there is plenty of nearby street parking.
