Brooklands Tavern, Southern River

Family friendly dining in Perth’s southern suburbs.

Brooklands Tavern is one of those family-friendly pubs that I have known about for a while, but have not yet ventured too, and I can’t believe it took me so long to get there.

I knew that the tavern has an indoor play area for the kids, so we finally put it on our to-go list and headed there to catch up with family for our daughter’s 6th birthday.

The tavern is split into a sports bar and restaurant. The play area is located in the restaurant, so the kids can climb, crawl and slide as they please. It’s not a massive area, but there are multi-levels with slides and various bits and pieces to do.

Brooklands Tavern also has a dedicated kids’ menu, emmacomplete with colouring-in and activities, plus little packs of pencils to use and keep. The colouring kept my children amused for a few minutes, but the playground was always going to be the big drawcard.

Apart from eating our meals, I barely saw my six-year old. She was off in the playground, making new friends and making up games. My three-year-old is a little more hesitate to stray so far from mum for long periods, but also loved the playground too.

The Brooklands’ menu offers typical pub grub such as starters and share plates, pasta, salads, steaks, burgers and more, plus they also have specials during the week. Wednesday night, when we visited, was Parmi night, which lots of different toppings to choose from.

On our table we ordered a range of meals that included fish and chips, chicken parmi, beef brisket, caesar salad and the kids’ nuggets and chips. There were no complaints about the meals from any of our table of 12, which is rare! All the meals were brought out at the same time too, which is always a good sign.

They also offer a great range of wine, beers, spirits and cocktails.

I found the service was efficient and fast, and the staff friendly. We sang happy birthday to my daughter around the birthday cake that we brought from home, although the tavern does have a selection of beautiful cakes to choose from too.

We saved a total of $35 off our meal by using our Entertainment App , which is always a bonus! I didn’t actually know they offered a discount on the App until I checked on the night, as the appeal of the playground was the initial reason to go.

I would definitely recommend Brooklands Tavern to anyone with young children or for people simply looking for a nice, well-priced meal and great service.
