A fantastic park that has had a makeover and is also fully fenced.

If you are looking for a great toddler friendly playground in Perth’s Southern suburbs, Botany Park is one to put on your to do list.

Botany Park is in Hammond Park and has recently had a makeover and has been completely fenced to stop little people wandering off.

I used to live in Cockburn but had never visited the park, probably because there are over 300 parks to choose from in the city and visiting them all was just about impossible. It’s only been since we moved away and I need toddler-friendly venues did I get around to going.

Botany Park is located on Macquarie Boulevard, next to the Hammond Park Hurricanes Junior Football Club facilities and oval, so it’s quite hard to miss. There is also an amazing array of public exercise equipment located right next to the playground.

There are two small play structures in the playground. One is suitable for toddlers and preschoolers and the other is more suited to older kids. The smaller of the two has a number of different steps and a small slide and the bigger of the two has all sorts of bells and whistles.

There is a rock climbing style wall, a twisted ladder and other things to climb on and up, plus a slide.

The playground has a double swing set with an all abilities seat and a seat for older babies and toddlers. There is also a separate birds nest swing.

Another great feature is the bike and scooter track! The kids can whizz around and obey the stop signs painted on the ground - be sure to give way!

Botany Park also has a fantastic sand and water play area, although you will definitely have to watch the smaller kids as there is a built up area of rocks they might try to climb up.

The playground has a roundabout, plus a heap of timber balancing beams, steps and platforms. There are shade sails over the majority of the play equipment, plus a drinking water fountain.

You will also find barbecues and a shaded picnic spot. There is a public toilet in the Hurricanes sporting facilities which is open from dawn until dusk.

Aside from the playground, you will also find an impressive range of public exercise equipment for adults! You can work out your entire body without paying for a gym membership!

Coffee very close by at the nearby shopping centre, which is only a short walk away and has an IGA and a small cafe. There is also the option of $5 coffee and cake at the Quarie Bar and Brasserie between 11am and 12pm, which is opposite the shop and another great option for a mummy catch up after a play at the park!

Botany Park is a lovely spot for a play if you are in the Cockburn area. You can stop for a picnic or barbecue without the youngest kids escaping.
