Enjoy delicious coffee and cupcakes then feed the animals!
It’s really no surprise why one of Cockburn’s newest cafes, Banjup Local, was crazily busy - with a huge outdoor space to sit and enjoy cake with emus, goats and ponies looking on, it’s child-friendly coffee at its finest.
Located within the grounds of Armadale Road in Banjup, I have driven past Banjup Local many times and have noticed the mass of cars gathered in the car park.
When I finally visited with my husband and daughter, it was packed primarily with mums and their babies, toddlers and preschoolers.
It’s clear that this unique space is a winner with parents. Simply order what you want from the cafe, such as hot drinks, cakes, cupcakes and biscuits - which includes a range of flourless, vegan and gluten free options, collect your order and enjoy the sunshine. They also sell pasta, eggs and
There is plenty of room for the kids to run around while you enjoy a coffee. There are a few tables and chairs dotted around, including rustic tables made from pallets and chairs fashioned out of milk crates, but there were also plenty of picnic rugs spread out on the ground.
We ordered coffees, a babyccino for our little girl and a delectable chocolate cupcake. Although my little girl loves cakes, sometimes she can be a bit fussy, but this one was gobbled up with ease. There was a huge range of colourful sweet treats to choose from - it would be tempting to walk out with one of each, but I refrained.
Once we had our drinks and cupcake, we perched ourselves on some old pallets. It probably sounds uncomfortable but our little girl wanted to meet some animals, so we didn’t stay seated for long, but bring a cushion if you want to sit down for a long chinwag!
She loved kicking the ball around and playing soccer - there are two soccer nets, but the main attraction is the animals. At around 10am, we were treated to some animal feeding! A staff member brought a big bucket of food scraps for the goats and they ate out of the kids’ hands. The feeding happens from behind the fence, so don’t be nervous about a stampede of goats!

I would definitely recommend Banjup Local to anyone looking for a family or child-friendly outing! It’s a perfect spot to meet your mums group or enjoy a coffee while the kids have a play and feed the animals.
