Some fantastic places you can visit that are guaranteed to keep you out of the house with the kids all day!
Summers in Perth come with two guarantees. One – they will be hot. Two – they will be long, as you constantly try and entertain the kids for what seems like days and days (and days) on end.
Finding activities can seem like an all-day job in itself. There will be days when you don’t feel like going far from home, or out at all (and there is nothing at all wrong with that) but for those days when the kids are itching to get out of the house, here are some fantastic all-day activities for families in Perth.
Whiteman Park, Whiteman
Whiteman Park has a multitude of activities to keep the family entertained all day. Not only does it boast an awesome little water playground in the summer months, but it has vintage train rides around the park, the
Tractor Museum of WA and the
Motor Museum of WA . There’s also the
Woodlands Reserve and
Caversham Wildlife Park to marvel at, while in the
Children’s Forest , you can send the kids off to complete the
’50 things to do in the Children’s Forest’ checklist. There’s also shops, picnic areas and a café.

The Maze, Bullsbrook
The Maze has more activities than you can poke a stick at. There’s the
Water Playground , complete with three-storeys and six slide, plus the Plummet, a giant inflatable slide, and heaps of
dry activities to do. As the name suggests, there are plenty of
mazes to navigate and brain teasers to think long and hard about. The kids can also meet a huge range of native birds and Australian animals, including kangaroos,
koalas and emus.

Explore the City
One of the best ways to see the best attractions in and around the city is to hop on, and off, the
Perth Explorer , Perth’s very own tourist bus. You can hop on and off as many times as you like and it will take you to Elizabeth Quay, Kings Park, including the Synergy Playground and Roe Gardens – plus the Perth Mint and Watertown Shopping Outlet.
If foot is your preferred method of travel, spend the day discovering some hidden treasures of Perth, such as the
Cultural Centre Playspace , Perth’s very own
City Farm or check out the city’s first and only dessert kebab bar at
Happy Larry’s Chocolate Kebabs .
All aboard the Perth Explorer.
Hillary’s Boat Harbour
Hillarys Boat Harbour has so many great family activities, it’ll be hard just to spend just the one day there. From enjoying all the water and dry activities at
The Great Escape , to watching some of Western Australia’s awesome marine life go about their business at
AQWA , to shops, restaurants, playgrounds, a man-made beach and plenty of space to pull out a picnic rug, Hillarys makes a great family destination.
Address: 86 Southside Drive, Hillarys

Take a day trip North or South
If you live north of the river, and don’t get south much – and vice versa – why not make a day of it and travel to the other side of Perth’s metro area. Perth ‘northies’ can take a day trip to Mandurah, where you’ll find the
Peel Zoo ,
Dolphin Quay at the Mandurah Ocean Marina, where you can take a cruise and spot the local dolphins, get a bit of retail therapy and take a stroll with an ice cream along Mandurah Boardwalk.
Southies trekking north of the river can enjoy the spoils of Hillary’s Boat Harbour (see above),
Mindarie Marina , the beautiful Maylands Peninsula, or explore historical Guildford.
Alternatively, why not head out to the hills and enjoy a day at
Mundaring Weir , or exploring the beautiful sites at
Araluen Botanic Park ? Simply pack a picnic and off you go.
It's hands on at Peel Zoo.
Don’t forget there’s a heap of other places in Perth to spend all day at, including
Adventure World ,
Serpentine National Park ,
Perth Zoo ,
Fremantle ….the list goes on. If you’d like to spend the day museum hopping around Perth with the kids, read on here for some great museums to take the kids to.
