Activities For Families At The Cockburn ARC

There's always lots of family fitness and fun happening at the Cockburn ARC!

Since opening in mid-2017, the Cockburn Aquatic and Recreation Centre (ARC) has been a popular hub for families looking to keep active but also have fun. The centre offers a range of activities for families that includes family swimming lessons, a play centre, a crèche for both big and little kids, sports for kids and of course, those totally awesome water slides! Here’s what’s on at the ARC for families.

Family swimming

The Cockburn ARC has swimming lessons for children aged from 4 months old, with classes running at various times during the week. Children will work through the various swimming levels through fun and interactive social activities.

The centre also runs ‘Waterbubs’ warm water sessions outside of class times, which are available for children aged 3 and under. Recreational swimming for adults is also available, with a 50-metre outdoor pool, 25-metre indoor pool and spa, sauna and steam room.

Fun water slides and water play

The ARC has three colourful and exciting waterslides, which are eye-catching even from the outside of the building. There is the blue, looping Rocket, the extremely speedy yellow Pipeline, and the Tumbler, which two people can ride together on a raft. The slides are available for children aged 7 and over and who are least 120cm tall. The waterslides are not suitable for pregnant women or people with heart conditions. They operate all year round (during school days water slides operate from 4pm to 6pm only.)

Along with the water slides, there is also the fun water play area! The water play area has a couple of slides running from a play structure, which has a massive bucket on the top. The bucket will slowly fill up with water and as it gets fuller, a bell rings to signify that it’s about to tip! Time to either move out of the way or get soaked when it does!

Bandicoots Play centre

The ARC is home to the Bandicoots Play Centre, a small play centre with soft play, a multi-level play structure with slides and tunnels, a separate area for babies and even a party room with a kitchen. It’s a great place to hold a birthday party for pre-schoolers and younger school children, or you can hire it for exclusive use with your mums group or play group. It is open from 10am to 1pm on weekends and during school holidays at a cost of $8 per session for kids aged up to 8 years.

Creche

Take some time out for yourself to do a workout while the kids are looked after by trained professionals in the crèche. The ARC has two crèches – Carnaby’s Club Creche for preschoolers aged from 8 weeks to 5 years, and the Big Kids Creche, which runs during school holidays and is available for children aged between 6 and 11 years in Court One of the stadium. In Carnaby’s Club Creche, children have a big variety of toys, games and activities such as play doh to keep them entertained, while children partaking in the Big Kids Creche will have planned activities and sports to take part in.

Junior Sports

Junior Sports are available for children in years 1 to 12 and are an eight week program run after school on Fridays. Kids can play basketball or futsal.

Zumba for Kids

Along with the Junior Sports program, kids who love to dance can take part in Zumba for kids! The classes are available for children aged between 6 and 10 years at a cost of $10 per class.

ARC Playground

The ARC playground is located just outside the centre and has a large focus on nature based play. It has rope and timber play equipment, two large slides, a small rock climbing wall, shaded picnic tables and a birds nest swing.
